The Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of programs and classes for all ages, including recreation classes, a fitness club, organized team sports, and a roller skating/blading area.  The department works with public and private agencies to maximize the recreational use of schools and other public facilities, while also partnering with Teller County Public Health on shared health and fitness issues.  Additionally, it works with the City's Planning Department to develop open space and assists in the development of an "operations and maintenance" staff to care for the open space system.

To fill the personal, social, economic and environmental needs of the community with quality recreational opportunities, and to enhance the visual quality of the city and its neighborhoods.

Goals and Objectives:

• To provide a broad range of conveniently located quality recreational opportunities for all visitors and residents.
• Establish a cooperative effort with other public and private agencies.
• Ensure that adequate open space is provided in newly developing areas of anticipated populations.
• Provide facilities and programs that are available to all citizens regardless of race, creed, sex, age or national origin.
• Provide physical and visual continuity in the overall park/open space system.
• Continue the development of a trail system in cooperation with local groups.
• Achieve a high degree of safety for users of developing and current parks and recreation systems.
• Dedicate in-kind services in support of the "Gold Belt Communities Build A Generation" project.
